Recently I wrote about Scott
Hamilton's winning spirit. Now think about who you'd recommend
for the most spirited champion in your life. I'll tell you who I'm
nominating while you take a few moments to ponder your answer.
My choice is another Scott,
only this time it's my grandson. Some of you may remember reading
about him in an earlier issue. Scott has been experiencing chemo and
radiation treatments for leukemia for about 1 ½ years. Want us to get
you a cool cap to wear? "No, I'm fine the way I
am" (without hair). He was home-schooled for a year. His
baseball "career" came to a screeching halt; instead, he
focused on walking, eating and breathing. He did what needed to be
done each day without complaints, whining or self-pity.
About a year ago, he fell
while on a skiing outing for kids with cancer and broke his left leg.
A couple days later a woman tripped him, knocking him off his
crutches and injuring his left knee. No bitterness..."It just
happened."
Later, with more and more
pain in his right knee, Scott ended up with another cast. That
didn't ease the pain. The latest news is that Scott recently had knee
surgery due to the steroid treatments. These meds caused necrosis
(dead tissue) in his long bones. The docs also drilled holes in some
of his bones hoping this procedure will stimulate new bone growth. Their
prognosis is that Scott will need a knee replacement at some
point in the future. We're all staying positive. With high vibrations
and expectations, a lot of faith and Grandma's healing hands, we're
expecting to see great results.
How is Scott? He's always,
"Fine" or "Good." He's just "one of the
kids" at school and around friends. Scott is determined to
succeed, feel good and be "normal." While his stamina is a
little less than most children his age, he continues to gain
strength. His spirit is strong and courageous, his attitude is super positive, and the future
is bright. It's a joy to be around Scott's high vibrational energy.
If this were happening to you
or someone close to you, how do you think you'd be feeling? Angry,
bitter, calm, forgiving, confident, sorry for yourself, doubting,
trusting, accepting or blaming? Which emotions and attitudes promote
healing and raise your energetic frequency? Of course, you know the
ones that are most helpful and so does Scott. They're the ones
that make you feel better, give you hope and say, "Now here's
someone with a great spirit!"
So...who's the champion in
your life? It may be a parent, sibling, spouse, friend or even
yourself. It's perfectly alright to recognize and appreciate your
strengths and your attitude. In fact, I encourage you to do so. If
you're the one you chose, give yourself a pat on the back and a
reward for a job well done.
If you picked someone else,
what makes that person a winner in your mind? What qualities do you
admire in them? Consider sharing your feelings with them. Perhaps you
have some of those same qualities. Focus on what you can shift to be
who, and how, you want to be. Being a champion can mean reaching for
one more point, a home run, a new job or a better feeling thought. It
can be doing the thing that you've always wanted to do but didn't
think you could.
Know what having the spirit
of a champion is for you. Visualize it, believe in it and work to
achieve it. It may not always be easy, but it's worth the effort when
you know you've done your best; and you feel good about yourself.
